Microsoft at the Build 2021 conference today announced a preview version of Project Reunion 0.8. You may be aware of this platform which is designed not only to unite the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and Win32, but also to separate the APIs from the operating system, so that they will no longer require an up-to-date version of Windows to use them.

Project Reunion 0.8 lets you build apps using .NET 5, including WPF and WinForms, that will run on Windows 10, version 1809 or newer. Compared to Project Reunion 0.5, the new version brings improved support for WinUI 3 and WebView2, and also adds support for ARM64-based devices.

With Project Reunion, Microsoft will also try to make the transition between the feature updates smooth, without breaking the apps that rely on missing features in this or that Windows 10's feature update.

The stable version of Project Reunion 1.0 is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2021. In the meantime, you can check out the Project Reunion roadmap for 2021.
