Windows PowerToys are Getting a New App Launcher

Microsoft is working on a new 'power toy' to add to their recently revived app suite. This time is an app launcher, that combines search with extra features for users' convenience.LogoYou may remember PowerToys, a set of tiny handy utilities which were first introduced in Windows 95. Probably, most users will recollect TweakUI and QuickRes, which were really useful. The last version of the classic PowerToys suite was released for Windows XP. In 2019, Microsoft announced that they are reviving PowerToys for Windows and making them open source. Windows 10 PowerToys obviously are completely new and different, tailored for the new operating system.

A new tool, to be named yet, is intended to take over the existing Win + R shortcut, providing a new Run command with extra options like  quick search for apps, files, and docs. It will support extensions to get features like a calculator, dictionaries, and online search engines.

When it comes to the features of the upcoming app, macOS users may recall the Alfred software, and Linux users may refer to rofi.

Here is a concept created by Niels Laute which the devs team is about to follow:

It is not known yet when we will get our hands on the launcher app.
