As you may remember, Microsoft has postponed public rollout of Windows 10 version 1903 '19H1' on April 4, 2019. By shifting the release from April to May, the company has allotted more time for testing. Today, Windows 10 version 1903 is available for regular users.

At the time of this writing, Windows 10 version 1903 is available to "seekers". This means that you need to open Settings >Update & recovery > Windows Update and explicitly confirm your intention to get May 2019 Update by clicking on the "Download and install" link.

With the release of the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, Microsoft is introducing new features that provide additional clarity and control over the update experience, both for feature updates and optional monthly non-security updates. These new options were designed to help prevent updates from occurring unexpectedly and to make it very clear which type of update is selected. The main change is a new “Download and install now” option in Windows Update settings.

The “Download and install now” option provides users a separate control to initiate the installation of a feature update on eligible devices with no known key blocking compatibility issues. Users can still “Check for updates” to get monthly quality and security updates. Windows will automatically initiate a new feature update if the version of Windows 10 is nearing end of support. We may notify you when a feature update is available and ready for your machine. All Windows 10 devices with a supported version will continue to automatically receive the monthly updates.

Note: This new ‘Download and install now’ capability is available for devices running Windows 10, version 1803 or version 1809 that also have the May 21st updates (or later) installed.

Windows 10 version 1903 can be downloaded via Windows Update or with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.

  1. I downloaded 1903 today, with the media creation tool Run the installer and keep files and programs.

Install blows up, at about 39%, with “Windows 10 installation has failed” The logs don’t show anything obvious.

So much for the 1903 update, that has been released.

  2. Microsoft release the ISO images and not fixed the usb drive issue for those who wished to install from a thumb drive
    Whats that all about???

    just ridiculous!

Once the files are copied on the computer (from the thumb drive), just eject the USB stick before the first restart and the installation should work fine ;-)
