Windows 10 Redstone 2 build 14901 is out for Insiders

Microsoft today released the first public build of the next feature update for Windows 10, known by the code name "Redstone 2". The build number is 14901, which is available now for participants of the Windows Insider program.

Windows 10 build 14901 winverAs expected, the release does not feature significant changes to the user interface nor any major new features. Instead, it brings some improvements to the operating system core.

Windows 10 build 14901 comes with two known issues and one new feature. The new feature is the updated File Explorer:

Improving Product Education: As part of an effort to explore new ways of educating our customers on features in Windows 10 – we are testing out new notifications within File Explorer. They’re designed to help customers by providing quick, easy information about things they can do or new features they can try to have a better experience with Windows 10. If you want to opt out of these notifications, you can do so by unchecking ‘Show sync provider notifications’ from the Options menu in the File Explorer View tab.File Explorer 14901

The list of known issues in Windows 10 build 14901 looks as follows:

  • Support for kernel debugging over 1394 has been removed, but will be available in an upcoming kit release. A work-around will be posted to the Debugging Tools for Windows Blog shortly.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes when you try to launch it.

We noticed another change in this build to the product key page:
product key 14901Besides the link to buy a Windows 10 product key, there is another option "I'm reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC".

To get this build, you should be on the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider program. Go to Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Insider Program to configure it so Insider builds will arrive through the Fast ring. Once this is done, Windows 10 build 14901 will be installed via Windows Update.
