Windows 10 makes it possible to request apps from Android developers

In Windows 10 build 14356 which was released for Insiders, users are able to sync their Android device notifications with Windows 10. The latest Insider Preview allows the user to directly request the developer of the Android app which produced the notification to create a Universal (Metro) app for Windows 10.

Microsoft is trying to boost the Windows "Universal" app ecosystem, which is known to be lacking millions of mobile apps found on Android and iOS. Many developers avoid Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile market completely as it is very small compared to the user base of Android or iOS and also because Windows is a PC OS, not suitable for running apps made for smaller devices. Microsoft also often changes the platform rules and wastes developers' investments in the platform.

To improve the situation with Windows 10, Microsoft has now made it possible for users to request Universal apps for Windows 10 directly from Android developers.

Here is how it looks:cortana-request-app_story

Do you think it will help Microsoft increase the number of Universal apps or do you consider this move annoying and desperate? Tell us in the comments.

  1. UWP will never work for programs ever. They will either be too limited and have huge UI on desktops or be unusable on touch devices.
And with games they will be gimped to match XBone’s weak HW.
