Winaero Tweaker 0.5.0.1 is out now. This new version comes with a lot of bugfixes. I tried to fix all bugs you reported since version 0.5. Also, I added a few interface improvements and new features. Let's see the application change log in detail.
Winaero Tweaker 0.5.0.1

In Winaero Tweaker 0.5.0.1, I fixed the following bugs:

  • When an option was opened from search results, the appropriate item in the left area (tree) was not selected.
  • The "reset defaults" toolbar button was available in search results.
  • Fixed non-working HomeGroup item in Navigation Pane - Default Items.
  • The option "Old Volume Control" for Windows 10 was displayed as "enabled" by default which is wrong.
  • The option "Balloon tooltips" for Windows 10 was displayed as "enabled" by default which is wrong.
  • Fixed app crash and incorrect behavior if the full path to its executable file contains the %5B string.
  • Fixed app crash when the category view was opened with the keyboard only.
  • Fixed the flickering cursor in category view and favorites.

In version 0.5.0.1 I removed two features:

  1. I deleted small icons (16x16) in the left pane. They are 24x24 now.
  2. I removed the hover option for the category view and favorites. It is disabled now.

Finally, I implemented High DPI image scaling for icons in the left area and in the toolbar. Users with high resolution displays should benefit from this change.

Besides the mentioned changes, I added a new option which will allow you to disable the Action Center completely in Windows 10. You will find it in Behavior - Disable Action Center:That's it. I hope you enjoy the new version of Winaero Tweaker. Feel free to report any bugs you find and make your own suggestions. You can download Winaero Tweaker here:

  1. Hi,

    after downloading the Winaero-Tweaker 0.5.0.1 I got a malware-alert by windows-defender.
It detected a trojan and the advice was to delete the winaero-file.

    Was that alert a false-positive?
My system is Windows 10 pro 64-bit.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    1. Hi wodi
It is false positive alert. You can upload Winaero Tweaker to VirusTotal and check it there. The app is clean.

      1. Hi Sergey,

thank you very much for your reply.
I’m gonna download winaero-tweaker again and will use it.

        Happy again :-)

  2. Windows Defender FP – this is becoming a big PITA. This morning, suddenly, WD reported Winaero Tweaker contained a Trojan for me too. Worse, it automatically quarantined it, then forced a reboot. Downloading Tweaker again resulted in another quarantine. I had to temporarily disable WD, install Tweaker, then exclude Tweaker’s folder from WD scanning. I realize this is WD doing this, but it would be great if you could do something from your end to stop anti-malware scanners from tagging your code.

    1. I just reported the app as a false positive detection to Microsoft.
If they will find some time to fix their mad dog, then everything will be OK.

    2. Interesting thing:
When it is unpacked, Defender does not detect it.
When the app is in ZIP archive, it detects it as follows:

      Category: Trojan

Description: This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker.

Recommended action: Remove this software immediately.

      Items:
      file:C:\Users\winaero\Desktop\tweaker\WinaeroTweaker.exe

Get more information about this item online.

      This is pure rubbish.

Also, it triggers only on Win8/Win10 version. But does not mark Win7 version as Trojan.

  3. Well, I just downloaded the new version of Winaero Tweaker (0.5.0.3) that came out today. I first deleted all traces of the old version, then installed the new. I then went into Windows Defender and removed all the exclusions for Winaero Tweaker I put in earlier. Then I manually scanned the Winaero Tweaker zip file, folder and executable and Windows Defender reported all was clean! :)

I don’t know if the new update fixed, if Microsoft fixed WD, or both. But all is good – for now.

    So, wait and see.

    1. Maybe I am wrong, but it looks like it is fixed with new signatures.
I noticed they got updated this evening.
