Fix Wi-Fi Is Disconnecting in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

A number of users complain regularly to us that their wireless connection keeps disconnecting after upgrading to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Here is a simple workaround you can try if you are affected by this issue.

In fact, the issue can be caused by many factors or some of them simultaneously. It can be some incompatible driver, wrong hardware settings after the upgrade or just a bug in the OS.

However, for many users it appears to be an issue with Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter device.

As a workaround, try to disable it until a permanent solution is released with a Windows Update patch.

The cause of the problem is that some Wi-Fi network adapters are not compatible with the most recent implementation of the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter driver. The downside of disabling this driver is that you won't be able to create a Wi-Fi hotspot any more or use apps like ShareIt. If this is not an issue for you, then safely continue.

  1. Before upgrading to Creators Update I used to have not my Wi-Fi disconnecting but mobile hotspot automatically turning off, even when network would be in use by another device. Now so far I’ve not experienced this again. It’s a phenomenon – some people get their issues fixed whilst others get new problems. I guess this is what comes when a variety of devices run the same OS.

    1. I didn’t take long after writing my comment to get disconnected once again. At least, I’m glad that I’m not getting disconnected from public Wi-Fi.
