There is a new battery indicator in Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with lots of changes to the user interface. Most of them are intended to improve your interaction with the UI when you are using a touch screen. This trend started with Windows 8, however, in Windows 10, it has evolved further. Windows 10 features an extended Modern Settings app, which inherits almost all classic Control Panel options and settings. These changes should affect many other parts of the OS too, so even the battery indicator has been updated to be touchscreen friendly.

If you are someone who is on the bleeding edge of trying out new Windows 10 Technical Preview builds, you might have already installed Build 10049, from Windows Update. If you are running a laptop or some other mobile PC, you might have noticed the new battery indicator available in this build.

You can see in the image below that the battery life indicator has been updated to match the rest of the OS:

For example, this is how it looks in previous versions of Windows:

Hmmm! Don’t know where this is going but the popup and notification windows are going pre Windows 3.11. They look so ugly and meaningless. For example, the new windows update app, shows how many to upgrade, no option to select few nor shows the size of the files. Too bad too little exactly. The windows have grown double the size with font which can be read from 10 feet apart with very little information passed. Just my observations.

Yeah, really, reminds me 16-bit Windows too.

I just upgraded to windows 10 a few hours ago and had this same question. Mine is not showing the battery icon at all. I followed the instructions you provided, but the on/off switch for the Power Icon is grayed out in the off position. Being that I use a laptop for the majority of my work, this is an important feature to me…

Battery indicator should show even when screen is off. At least battery full indicator , say green light , should be visible so that battery getting over charged could be avoided.

Is there a way to show battery status on the lock and logon screens of Windows 10?
