Skype launches Meet Now: Video Conferences without registration or installation

Microsoft has launched a new calling experience for Skype. A new feature, called Meet Now, allows organizing conferences with ease. No sign-ups or downloads required.

Meet Now in Skype allows you to easily set up a collaboration space and invite both Skype contacts and friends or family who are not on Skype. Participants can then easily join meetings whether they have an account or not.

Skype Meet Now

Announced on Friday, Skype Meet Now is implemented as a web-based version of Skype, with additional features. It includes a permanent link that you share via a messenger or email. It includes background blurring, screen sharing, and automatic call recording and files shared over your conference, available to participants for download, stored up to 30 days.

Users can go to the Skype Meet Now web site, and get a shared meeting link by clicking on the Create a free meeting button. The app will directly open up if the person you are inviting has installed Skype. Just in case the person has not installed the Skype app, the video call will start on the browser. Edge r Google Chrome are required. You can invite up to 50 participants.

Skype Meet Now is available for free.

  1. Of course they are, now that Zoom has suddenly become a household name overnight.

The person hosting the meeting has a zoom account, joining a meeting does not require one.

We are using it for both school and dance classes as I’m sure millions of other people are now.

    1. This Zoom thingy which I hadn’t even heard of until now – does the company have any decent camera hardware of its own or it’s the same old crappy webcam that it works with?

      1. I believe it’s just another laptop VC clone… So you’ve got Teams, Slack, WebEx, PowWowSomething, GoToMeeting, Blue Jeans and so many others… It’s becoming a chore at work telling people “No, we’re not gonna install some new app that pops up every 2 months, stick to Teams and Skype For Business.
