Skype 8.56 Released with Message Quoting Improvements

Skype 8.56 is out with a number of fixes and improvements, including the ability to quickly quote and paste messages with keyboard shortcuts on Windows and macOS.

Skype 8.56 is available to all supported platforms. Microsoft is gradually rolling out Skype for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Web. Its key features are as follows.

Skype for Windows, Mac, Linux and Web

  • Instantly Quotable: You can now use keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste quotes on Windows and Mac. Turn it on in Settings  >  Messaging  >  Paste copied messages as quotes to try it out. Learn more about this. (Not available in Skype for Windows 10 (version 14)).
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements:  We smashed some bugs, but a quick trip through the car wash cleaned the windshield quite nicely.

Skype for Android, iPhone and iPad

Fixes

  • Systray icon should not appear offline anymore after a computer launch.
  • Split view should not get disabled by itself anymore.
  • When using split view, new messages sync now better in open chat windows.
  • Auto-answering working better when the app was backgrounded on desktop.

The improved quoting feature is rolling out gradually over the next couple of days.

Keyboard shortcuts to quote in Skype for desktop

  1. Sign in to Skype.
  2. Select your profile picture.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Select Messaging.
  5. Toggle Paste copied messages as quotes on.

To quote a message in Skype using keyboard shortcuts,

  1. From your chat, highlight any text within a message or multiple messages that you want to quote.
  2. Copy the text by pressing Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (Mac) on your keyboard.
  3. Paste the text in the Type a message text field by pressing Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac) on your keyboard.
  4. Note: To Forward the quote to a different chat, open a different conversation window and paste your copied text there.
  5. Choose Send to deliver your quoted text.
