How to Set, Change, or Clear Default Location in Windows 10

The location data is used by various Windows services and third party apps to provide you country-specific information. For example, a news app can show you local news, and a weather app can utilize location information to provide you the actual weather forecast.

Windows 10 allows you to specify a default location for your device that the operating system, the installed apps, and its services can then use when other methods of determining the location can’t be used, e.g. the GPS receiver is not available.

Today, we will review how to specify, modify, and reset the default location for your Windows 10 device.

To Set the Default location in Windows 10,

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Privacy > Location.
  3. Ensure that Location for your device is on.
  4. On the right, click on the Set default button under the Default location section.
  5. This will open the Maps app. There, click on the Set default location button.
  6. In the text box, specify the default location, e.g. an address or city name.
  7. Alternatively, click on Choose location below the input box and use the map to specify it.
  8. If prompted, click on Set to specify your default location in Windows 10.

You are done. You can close the Settings and Maps apps if you wish.
