Remove Edit With Photos Context Menu in Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with a new Universal app, Photos. It adds a new context menu item for images. It is called "Edit With Photos" and launches the UWP app. If you are not going to use Photos for that purpose, you might find it useful to get rid of the context menu command. Here is how.

Microsoft has included a new, Universal Windows Platform app "Photos" instead of the good old Windows Photo Viewer. The Photos app is set as the default image viewer app. Photos can be used to browse, share and edit your photos and your image collection. If you are not happy with Photos, see how to restore the classic Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10.

To remove the Edit With Photos context menu in Windows 10, do the following.

  1. Open Registry Editor (see how).
  2. Navigate to the following Registry key:

      1. Microsoft these days make such bloated context menus. Having all three ‘Edit’, ‘Edit with Photos’ and ‘Edit with Paint 3D’ is too much. In a perfect OS everything would be customizable and 3rd party apps would not be restricted to customize UI too.

  1. I was looking for a program to remove unwanted items from the Windows’ right click context menu. Winaero is works to remove a few default ones but it doesn’t detect entries from third party software. For example, I have Dxo OpticsPro installed on my system and now it has put itself on the top of the context menu for many image file types and I am looking for a way to remove it. Unfortunately, it’s not noted in Winaero. IS there a solution for to remove these entries?

    1. Yep. It is called Nirsoft ShellExView. Here you go: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
      Also, see http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shell_menu_view.html
      These will solve your issue.
