Remove Ability To Go Back To Previous Windows 10 Build

If you have installed a newer version of Windows 10 but are not happy with the update, you may return to the previous version of the OS that you had prior to the upgrade. In Windows 10 version 1803, there is a new option which allows removing the appropriate option from the Settings app. This is a good change for users with a reason to remove it.

Some users might be not happy with installed updates. Their apps may have compatibility issues with a newer build update, or their hardware drivers also may give them issues. For them, having the option to uninstall the update and go back to the previous build is important.
Go Back To A Previous Build

It is possible to uninstall a recently installed Windows 10 build only if you haven't deleted the Windows.old folder. If you already deleted it, then the only option available for you is to perform a clean install of the previous operating system. Check out the following articles:

Starting in Windows 10 version 1803, it is possible to remove the ability to go back to the previous Windows 10 build without deleting the Windows.old folder. There is a new option of the built-in DISM tool which can be used for this task.

Before proceeding, please keep in mind, that the procedure described below will remove the ability to go back to the previous version of Windows 10. The operation cannot be undone.

To remove the ability to go back to the previous Windows 10 build, do the following.

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Type or copy-paste the following command.
    dism /Online /Remove-OSUninstall

  1. Say I want to readd the ability to rollback to a previous build after following this tutorial. Is that possible?

    1. No it is not and it’s not recommended to do this when you get forced upgrade to “new” Windows version.

  2. I need to make sure there is only an option “Reset this PC” and “Advanced startup” and no option “Go back to the previous version of Windows 10” shown on Recovery after delete the previous version like Windows 10 version 1507 and 1511
