Windows 10 version 1903 users continue to suffer from issues after installing cumulative updates. The latest one, KB4515384, adds a number of new bugs to the OS, including  broken network connectivity, issues with mutli-channel audio, and even more.

KB4515384 was released for Windows 10 version 1903 on September 10, 2019, raising the OS build number to 18362.356. It is a cumulative update that is intended to improve reliability and performance of the operating system. Unfortunately, the annoying search bug retains in this release. Also, there are a number of new issues in this update.

Broken audio

In games that are able to produce multi-channel audio, such as Apex Legends, Overwatch, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, World of Warcraft Classic, and others, KB4515384 may cause missing audio effects and a low level of sound volume. Microsoft is aware about this issue, and recommends the following to mitigate it.

To mitigate the issue, open settings in the impacted game and disable multi-channel audio, if this option is available. You can also search in the Windows Control Panel for third-party audio device control panels and disable Multi-channel audio or Virtual Surround Sound, if these options are available.

We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late September.

Broken network connectivity

After installing KB4515384, some users report that Intel wireless network and Ethernet devices have stopped working. For one of them Device Manager reports a device error so that it cannot be started. For others the devices disappear from the Device Manager and only visible as a hidden devices. Removing KB4515384 solves the problem.

Other issues

Some users report that KB4515384 prevents them from opening Action Center, Edge, and certain Store apps. Uninstalling the problematic update resolves this.

Finally, Chinese IME may cause high CPU usage. The issue affects CHS (Chinese Simplified) and CHT (Chinese Traditional) keyboards.

  1. From where we are getting with these buggy updates, may be sticking to one half yearly release earlier might make sense but again they are messing with updates on every release. :D

Thanks for the update Sergey! I have paused my updates for now, lets see what miracle will follow. :)
