Microsoft Starts Removing Classic Edge From Windows 10 20H1

As you may already know, Microsoft is actively developing a new Microsoft Edge app, the Chromium-based browser to eventually replace their very own Edge UWP app which is the default browser in Windows 10 as of now. New under-the-hood changes hint that the company will remove the classic Edge app from Windows 10 20H1.

Developer Rafael Rivera, known for his findings and work around Windows 10, such as the mach2 toolposted on Twitter about his latest findings in build 18936, which was released to Insiders in the Fast ring earlier this week. According to the tweet, the latest build already includes some work towards removing the old version of the browser from Windows 10:

The new hidden configuration Windows 10 20H1 Build 18936 doesn't appear to be functional yet, it is a stub. When enabled with the mach2 tool, it has not effect.

Edge Removal Hint

As follows from the feature name,  Windows 10 will be able to automatically hide the classic Microsoft Edge browser (the UWP app) if you have Chromium Edge installed.

There is no official announcement when the feature goes live. As of now, both UWP and Chromium-based Edge app remain available if you have them installed simultaneously.

  1. I hate EDGE. The Beta is better but the native version just persists and even starts in the background. What are the registry keys to delete? Thanks
