Microsoft May Revive Tabs (Sets) in Windows 10 Soon

Sets was the most exciting feature of the upcoming Windows 10 version. Sets is an implementation of a tabbed shell for Windows 10 which allows app grouping exactly like tabs in a browser. Microsoft had removed them in Windows 10 Build 17704 'to continue making it great'. However, in SDK for Windows 10 build 19577 Sets made their appearance, giving us an idea that it may return in a feature update following Windows 10 version 2004.

When enabled, Sets will allow combining windows from different apps in a tabbed view. They look like regular web pages with each open tab in Microsoft Edge representing an app. See the following screenshot:

The user can add a new "app tab" by pressing the Ctrl key while launching the app. It will be possible to have multiple "app tabs" along with "web tabs" in a single window.

If you are not familiar with Sets, check out the following articles to learn more about its early implementation:

It looks like Sets have got a new chance to be added to Windows 10. Tero Alhonen has found a new reference to the Windows tabbed shell in the current Windows SDK 19577.

There is no official information from Microsoft regarding this SDK update. Time will tell if we will get sets again in Windows 10.
