Mainstream support for Windows 10 version 1709 has ended

The initial version of Windows version 1709 'Fall Creators Update' was released on October 17, 2017. Since then, Microsoft has released a few feature updates for the Windows 10 OS family, including version 1803 and version 1809; and subsequently a bunch of cumulative updates, including security fixes and stability improvements. Today, Windows version 1709 has exited mainstream support.

Following the official Windows lifecycle fact sheet, Microsoft is discontinuing servicing of Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, and IoT SKUs of Fall Creators Update.

End of mainstream support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides non-security fixes, updates, or online technical assistance. This is the time to make sure you have the next available feature update installed. When extended support ends, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information.

Windows 10 Enterprise and Education edition users still have another year. These editions will be supported till April 14, 2020.

Along with a Patch Tuesday update for Windows 10 1709 change log, Microsoft has updated the support page for version 1709 by adding the following note.

Reminder: March 12th and April 9th will be the last two Delta updates for Windows 10, version 1709. Security and quality updates will continue to be available via the express and full cumulative update packages. For more information on this change please visit our blog.

Reminder: Windows 10, version 1709, will reach end of service on April 9, 2019 for devices running Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, and IoT Core editions. These devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

IMPORTANT: Windows 10 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will continue to receive servicing for 12 months at no cost per the lifecycle announcement on October 2018.

It is worth mentioning that Windows 10 version 1607 has also reached the end of service for Enterprise and Education editions. It will remain available to a small select group of users running this Windows version on devices with Intel Clover Trail processors, and for Enterprise users on the LTSC channel.
