How to switch to Start screen instead of Start menu and vice versa in Windows 10

Windows 10 features two options to launch apps - it now has both, a Start screen and the Start menu. While the Start menu was the most anticipated change of Windows 10 for many users, there is a group of users who are comfortable with the Start screen and just do not want to switch back. Thankfully, Windows 10 provides you an appropriate option to satisfy both categories of users. Just follow the simple instructions in this article.

To switch from the Start menu to the Start screen like in Windows 8, do the following:

  1. Right click the empty space on the taskbar and choose "Properties" from its context menu.
  2. Switch to the "Start menu" tab in the Taskbar Properties dialog.
  3. Uncheck the checkbox: Use the Start menu instead of the Start screen and click the OK button.
  4. In the next dialog, click the button Sign out and change settings for the changes to take effect.

After you sign out and sign in back, you will see the Start screen instead the Start menu when you click the Start button.

  1. I am so happy the Start Screen is still here! I was absolutely dreading the return of the Start Menu.

    1. Well, I never liked the Start screen, but it is better to wait at least Windows 10 RC to see what MS will do with the new Start menu.
