Despite it being over ten years old, Windows 7 is still one of the most popular operating systems available today. Next week, however, will see Microsoft end support for it, and stop providing security fixes and updates. This has left a question about what programs will remain compatible with Windows 7.
One that will is Google Chrome. The firm has announced that it will support the retired OS for at least 18 months, until July 15th 2021. It means that Chrome will continue to receive security fixes and new features until that date at the earliest.
Google mentioned that it will benefit all users, as they can keep using a secure browser, but mentioned advantages to businesses in particular. They say that even "if you haven’t started your move to Windows 10", you "can still benefit from the enterprise capabilities of Chrome". It will also be easier for employees and IT administrators to work between Windows 7 and Windows 10, as the browsing experience with Chrome will be virtually identical.
Following on from this, Microsoft's new Edge browser, built on Chromium, will likely follow the same support cycle. Although it's fairly new, Microsoft has made it compatible with Windows 7, so it's quite unlikely that they'll end support this early. To compete with Chrome, support for the new Edge browser on Windows 7 will last for over a year, at least.

I am happy that Google will assist us Windows 7 users for a while. I don’t plan on using Windows 10 again until the internet shuts down permanently.
