Firefox VPN is out for Android as beta

Back in December 2019, Mozilla launched Firefox Private Network as beta. It is a private proxy service powered by Cloudflare. This month, Mozilla launched Firefox Private Network VPN for Android, expanding support with available client apps for Windows 10, and Chromebook.

The new app utilizes Firefox Private Network, so both services are in beta testing. They both currently limited to US users, and available for $4.99/month. Mozilla didn't reveal the pricing for the final version of the products.

Key features of Firefox Private Network (FPN)

 

• Protection when in public WiFi access points – Whether you are waiting at your doctor’s office, the airport or working from your favorite coffee shop, your connection to the internet is protected when you use the Firefox browser thanks to a secure tunnel to the web, protecting all your sensitive information like the web addresses you visit, personal and financial information.
• Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are hidden so it’s harder to track you – Your IP address is like a home address for your computer. One of the reasons why you may want to keep it hidden is to keep advertising networks from tracking your browsing history. Firefox Private Network will mask your IP address providing protection from third party trackers around the web.
• Toggle the switch on at any time. By clicking in the browser extension, you will find an on/off toggle that shows you whether you are currently protected, which you can turn on at anytime if you’d like additional privacy protection, or off if not needed at that moment.

FPN Software

In Firefox, FPN is available as a browser extension. It requires a Firefox account.

For Windows 10, Mozilla released an app which is a regular VPN client.

Apps for iOS, Mac, and Linux are coming soon.

Finally, there is a new Firefox Private Network VPN app on Google Play.

Firefox Private Network VPN for Android

Its description advertises FPN as a fast, secure, and easy-to-use VPN. The beta testing is limited to the US, and there is also a waitlist you need to join in order to try the VPN service.

The app highlights the following features:

• Hide your activity and location
• Choose from 100+ servers in 30+ countries.
• Stream, download and game without bandwidth restriction.

Mozilla claims that you can trust their VPN service. The connection is encrypted, and they do not save your activity log.

So, Firefox VPN users who have access to the service may try the application on their Android phones and tables. After it establishes the connection to FPN, all Android apps will utilize it and pass their traffic through it.
