Firefox 69 will come with Flash disabled by default

Mozilla is going to discontinue support for Adobe Flash in Firefox 69. The plugin will be disabled by default. A new bug filing confirms this intention.

Adobe Flash can be used to play videos and animated content. These days, there are a large number of users who disable Adobe Flash. They do so because of performance and battery life reasons as well as because security vulnerabilities are discovered in the Flash plugin. Security vulnerabilities can be exploited to hack your PC. Given the general trend in the industry towards HTML5, it can be disabled.

Also, Adobe is ending support for its Flash plugin in 2020. Following the software vendor's decision, Mozilla will remove Flash support for regular versions of Firefox from the beginning of 2020. The ESR edition of the browser will have support of the plugin till the end of 2020.

Starting in Firefox 69, Adobe Flash will be disabled by default. However, there will be a special about:config option to restore Adobe Flash support in regular releases of the browser. Users who need Flash will be able to turn it on. The option will be removed in early 2020.

After that, Mozilla will remove all NPAPI code from the browser which is required to run Flash. Mozilla has already made an exception only for Adobe Flash starting in Firefox 52, and has terminated support for other NPAPI plugins like Silverlight, Java, Unity, etc.

  1. Sergey,
    I know that it’s off topic, but…

    …in Win10 1809, is there any chance to disable from auto-starting background:

    1) Settings App;

    2) WindowsInternal.ComposableShell.Experiences.TextInput.InputApp.exe

    3) Windows Defender SmartScreen?

    T h a n k s !!!
