Hide or show notifications when duplicating a screen in Windows 10

When you have configured your additional displays for duplicating your primary screen, you might want to disable notification toasts. For example, if you are giving a presentation, you wouldn't want notifications to distract you. In this article, we'll see how you can hide or show notifications when you are duplicating your primary screen in Windows 10.

Windows 10 allows the user to set up a multi-display configuration using the Project feature. It is possible to use one of the following modes:

  • PC screen only
    Only the primary display is enabled. All other connected displays will be inactive.
  • Duplicate
    Duplicates the primary display on any additional displays.
  • Extend
    Your desktop will be extended across the all connected monitors.
  • Second screen only
    The primary display will be disabled. Use this option to switch to the external display only.

Windows 10 select project mode

To hide or show notifications when duplicating the screen in Windows 10, you need to do the following.

 

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Go to System -> Notifications & actions:Windows 10 notifications and actions
  3. On the right, look for the option Hide notifications when I'm duplicating my screen. If you enable it, Windows 10 will show toast notifications when you are duplicating the primary screen. Disable it to hide notifications:Hide notifications when Im duplicating my screenYou are done.

Alternatively, you can apply a Registry tweak to toggle the mentioned option. Do it as follows.

  1. Open Registry editor.
  2. Go to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings

    If you don't have such a key, then just create it.
    Tip: You can access any desired Registry key with one click.

  3. Create a new 32bit DWORD value here named NOC_GLOBAL_SETTING_SUPRESS_TOASTS_WHILE_DUPLICATING. Even if you are running 64-bit Windows, you still need to use a 32-bit DWORD value.
  4. Set the value data to 1 to disable notifications. Hide notifications when Im duplicating my screen reg
  5. To enable notifications, delete the mentioned value.
