Classic Shell 4.3.0 is out

Classic Shell is the world's most popular Start menu replacement for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 along with a bunch of unique customization options for Explorer and the Taskbar. The new version comes with a number of interesting changes. Here is what's new in this release.

Classic Shell Config window

  1. New "Remove highlight" item for the All Programs button, which will clear all programs and apps:Classic Shell remove highlight
  2. Ctrl+F focuses on the search box in the main Start Menu when a submenu isn't showing.
  3. Ctrl+left/right arrow will move the selection to the previous/next column without opening a submenu.
  4. The arrow keys also wrap around the columns so if there is no folder to expand/close, they can be used to select the item in the adjacent column on the same row
  5. The Settings window has Minimize and Maximize buttonsClassic Shell Config window max
  6. The Settings window can be moved with Alt+Space -> M
  7. Multiple reliability improvements to showing Windows 10 Start Menu
  8. Fixed the problems with the taskbar on secondary monitor on latest release of Windows 10
  9. Fix for jumplists in the Midnight skin when the search box is hidden
  10. Added Icelandic to the list of supported languages
  11. The flag icons on Language tab in Settings are larger if the DPI is 144 or higher
  12. New internal skin option "SEARCHBOX", which is true when the search box is visible to allow skins to use different settings based on that
  13. New internal skin settings, Main_icon_size and Main2_icon_size. You can set them to "none", "small" and "large" independently
  14. The emblem alignment can have two values. If the first alignment refers to the second column, and there is no second column, the second alignment will be used.

  15. If you put "none" in the tooltip for Edit Menu Item dialog, the tooltip won’t show for that item (similar to "none" for the Icon field)

That's it.

  1. Hello, I’ve tried Classic Shell and Startisback. Startisback is not free but it seems to be much lighter than the other one. Can you confirm that please ?

    1. Classic Shell is definitely more feature rich.
We have a reader here, which can make a comparison in detail. I’ll point him here.

    2. Lighter as in consuming less resources? All Start menus more or less take the same amount of memory and CPU. Classic Shell is extremely feature-rich compared to any other: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2399 and yet performs very fast. StartIsBack used to be good when Classic Shell was at version 3 but ever since version 4, Classic Shell is far superior. It has more features, customization and better choices than any other menu. I strongly recommend Classic Shell. You can get a very minimalistic menu with it too if that’s what you want or a full-featured menu.

  2. i don’t trust Stardocks products anymore because Start8 says stable but’s still in beta and explorer keeps crashing and i have been keep making new Stardock support tickets
